About Dermatochalasis

Learn about Dermatochalasis and how Eye Magic can help

Dermatochalasis (der-mă-toh-kă-lay-sis) n. redundant eyelid skin, which may cause drooping of the upper lid. It occurs as a result of aging and is therefore seen only in middle-aged and elderly people.

(definition from encyclopedia.com)

Eyelid skin that is lax, redundant, and has loss of elasticity can be defined as dermatochalasis. This occurs frequently in elderly persons and is common among men and women ages 40 and up. The condition can also develop in people in their 20s.

What Causes Dermatochalasis?

The most common cause of dermatochalasis is natural aging, which is common among men and women in their 40s, 50s, and older. As people age, they naturally lose the elastic tissue in their skin, causing excess skin and redundancy. In some cases, severe stress or trauma can accelerate the aging process, resulting in dermatochalasis at an earlier than normal age.

Dermatochalasis Treatment

Dermatochalasis is typically treated through surgery called blepharoplasty. In rare cases, improved hygiene or topical steroid ointments will help. However, upper eyelid blepharoplasty is widely known as the primary permanent treatment of dermatochalasis.

How Eye Magic Can Help

Eye Magic has been developed to provide an alternative to eyelid blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery).

Eyelid surgery can be expensive  and could result in complications such as scarring, skin discoloration, and blurry or double vision to name a few.

Eye Magic provides those with dermatochalasis a non-surgical alternative to this blepharoplasty. Eye Magic’s patented strips, counteract drooping eyelid skin by holding the skin in a natural position, restoring elasticity to the eyelid and lifting the eyelid droop.
